During the influenza pandemic of 1918, known as 'the plague of the Spanish Lady', temporary hospitals were established to care for the sick. Pakeha patients were treated in the Warmington buildings and at Te Kuiti School. This hospital, based at Te Tokanganui-a-noho Marae was established to care for Maori patients. Great photo.Interesting site
I have sen a message about a name on the photo. The man in the middle is Gabriel Elliott ( my grandfather). He appears as "- Eliot".I hope you are able to put in his name. He was a fluent Maori speaker an, with marae elders, helped Dr Zobel set up the hospital.
